I’m Joanna the founder and designer for Adira Jewel. Being born a human magpie meant the journey to becoming a jewellery designer was a natural one. After studying jewellery design at Central St Martins, I honed my craft by working with brands ranging from high street to high-end luxury. Eventually, becoming Head of Design at a prestigious jeweller in Glasgow—a role I deeply cherished.
But life seemed to have other plans for me as an abrupt worsening in my health from chronic migraines, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and Endometriosis forced me to leave my position. At first, it felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet. Yet, through this pain, I harnessed a deeper calling that had been nagging at me even during my time working for other companies
Inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo, who turned personal struggles into art, I began designing jewellery that transformed my own pain and experiences into symbols of hope and resilience—wearable art with soul.
